| Let's go western! All you need is a glue gun, ("have gun, will travel!") , measuring tape, scissors, measured trim(s) of your choice and, of course, a lamp shade. When you are looking for trims, don't be afraid to go bold. Look at the feathers, beads, rope trims, and even fringe. Mix colors and textures to create your own unique shade. Get ready: Measure the top and bottom of the shade, allowing a few extra inches for errors. A large lamp shade usually takes 2 yards of trim for the top and bottom. After deciding what trims you will be using, you are ready to go! Shoot: Cut your trims to the appropriate length and don't forget to add an inch or so, just in case. (Leaving the lamp shade on it's base and loosening the finial so the shade spins easily works best for me). Being careful not to touch the lamp shade with the tip of the hot glue gun, start gluing your trim to the shade. It is best to work in small lengths so the glue does not dry before you have your trim carefully placed. You can use clothes pins to hold the trim in place, but be careful not to place the pin over any hot glue. Work your way around the shade and carefully cut away any excess trim where it meets. If you are adding another trim over this one, let the glue dry completely before you begin. Now, tighten the finial and enjoy your new look!
